Dr. Robert Tomas
I am Robert E Tomas, D.O., FACOS, Board Certified in General Surgery. I perform no mesh inguinal and umbilical hernia surgery using the Desarda Technique for inguinal hernia repairs and my patented no mesh technique for umbilical/ventral hernia repairs. I was recently sponsored by Dr. Mohan Desarda as the Desarda Hernia Center of the United States®. I have mastered the Desarda technique for inguinal hernia repairs and have performed over 4000 no mesh inguinal hernia surgeries since 2009. Many of my videos can be seen online on YouTube and have been reviewed by Dr. Desarda himself for the accuracy of the technique. I have earned the label Dr. Nomeshinaround@ for hernia surgery. Our hernia center receives patients from all over the world for repairs of their inguinal hernias using the Desarda No Mesh Tension Free Repair. I also perform abdominal cosmetic surgery in Fort Myers, Florida. I am proficient at laparoscopic surgery and even performed the first single site gallbladder surgery at Gulf Coast Medical Center.
I received my osteopathic medical degree at Nova Southeastern College of the Health Sciences in Florida and completed my general surgery residency at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan as part of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. As part of my training, I spent several months at the University of Miami learning new techniques in general and colorectal surgery.
I am board-certified and a fellow of the America College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS) and a member of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). I have served in numerous principal positions and appointments such as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff while at Spohn Hospital of Alice in Texas. I have been in practice for over twenty three years and am fluent in Spanish and English.
I am also the father of two children, and offer a combination of my clinical skills in a family environment to our community.
